On behalf of the Pittsburgh JazzLive International Festival staff, I would like to thank everyone that made the fourth PJLIF a history-making event. The streets were filled with Latin rhythms thanks to the rare performance of the salsa legends, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, and the funkiest of funk with the master Fred Wesley! Younger artists like Nancy Harms, Benny Benack III, Emmet Cohen, Brandee Younger, Snarky Puppy and more help us achieve our goals for looking forward to what’s ahead for this music…jazz. Raul Midon, Joe Locke, Sean Jones, Roger Humphries, Gregory Porter, Ralph Peterson and the wondrous Dianne Reeves and all the extremely talented Pittsburgh-based musicians us to new heights for excellence and set the bar very high for festivals to come. We are working to bring you more music of the highest caliber in 2015.
Special thanks go out to Ben Penigar and the Grey Area Production team for bringing Big Sam’s Funky Nation to town to give us late night musical surprises. We are also looking forward to DJ Jay Malls pop-up record store, Trust Vinyl featuring more record vendors next year. Lastly, DJ Nate da Phat Barber rocked the streets with the best street party ever!
None of the fun would be possible without the generous support of the R. K. Mellon Foundation, the City of Pittsburgh, UPMC, Macy’s, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Imagine Pittsburgh, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Big Y Restaurant Group and Visit Pittsburgh for their support. Special thanks to North Coast Brewing Company and TGIFridays for joining the list this year. The numerous in-kind sponsors, JazzLive friends, our advisory board make the festival better every year.
Join us for PJLIF 2015 on June 19-21.
